A Real Comparison of Size, Motor Type, and Stability (55×28 Desk Review)
When I decided to buy an electric standing desk for my child’s study space, I didn’t expect the decision to take this much research.

If you search Amazon, you’ll notice that 48-inch standing desks dominate the results.
On paper, 48 inches sounds fine—but in real use, it often isn’t.

- A monitor takes up most of the width
- There’s little room left for notebooks or textbooks
- Many 48” desks are only 24” deep, which feels cramped
- Writing space ends up overlapping keyboard space
Once I tested layouts mentally, I realized that 55×28 inches (about 140×71 cm) was the minimum size that would feel comfortable long-term.
Single Motor vs Dual Motor: This Matters More Than You Think
This was the biggest learning moment for me.

- More wobble at higher positions
Dual Motor Desks
- More stable when raising/lowering
- Better weight distribution

Desk Options I Seriously Considered

One Thing to Note: Curved Desktop Design
The desk we chose has a curved front edge, which is very comfortable for arms and wrists.
However, this does mean:
- Standard under-desk drawers are hard to install
- Flat mounting surfaces are limited
Instead of an under-desk drawer, we plan to use:
- A small rolling drawer cabinet
- Side-mounted or clip-on organizers
For us, the comfort and look were worth that trade-off.

If you’re choosing an electric standing desk, my biggest advice is this:
Don’t start with price. Start with how you’ll actually use the desk.
For daily use, homework, or a heavier computer setup:
- Go wider than 48 inches
- Choose dual motor if possible
- Think about long-term comfort, not just specs
